Coffee Works began as a coffee roaster serving retail and wholesale customers in East Sacramento in 1982. The remodel of the cafe in 1997 more than doubled the space for retail customers and added the on-site bakery.

In 2002 we opened a second retail store and bakery near the state Capitol building, which was named Jump Start Cafe. The original store roasted for both locations and the new store baked for both. While strong conceptually, we decided this ambitious expansion split our quality focus, so in 2006 we sold the lease and fixtures of the second location and united the Jump Start Cafe with our original East Sacramento location.

The Jump Start bakery cafe is now back where it started and gaining new fans as we continue to add more food items to our full menu of morning pastries and carry away breakfast items. We also bake two kinds of house-made pizza every day and offer them by the slice. It's a popular addition for our afternoon UCD Medical center study hall folks. The reintroduction of beer and wine sales will allow us to offer our reknowned Jump Start stout.

We are also refocused on roasting quality coffees for other independently owned local cafes, restaurants, and offices. Come by when you are in the neighborhood and give us a look.
